Bad Actor Review

As part of an improvement program with any Predictive Maintenance (PdM) regime a ‘low hanging fruit’ is to target any ‘Bad Actors’ with a Bad Actor Review, these Bad Actors can either be assets not performing as expected or Failure Modes that are showing common themes.

In terms of assets a bad actor could be one that has a lower Mean Time Between Exception (MTBE) than similar ones.

In terms of failure modes a bad actor can be seen as a particular mode that is creating the most exceptions, such as misalignment or lack of lubrication etc.

Investigating these bad actors is a simple matter of instigating a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and looking in to the reasons which could be a matter of Training, procedure update, quality etc.
